The Weekend

Well this weekend was quite eventful; played poker, went to my first pro football game, went looking at houses, measured my roof, got new tires, and jack seemed to age a couple of months.

Played Poker:
A few of us at work get together once every month or two to play poker. We have been doing this for about 7-8 years, at least that is when i started getting invited. Rich was kind enough to host this game, thank you very Rich. In attendance was myself, Rich, Scott, Josh, Chuck, Todd, Rhett, and KoKo. I did pretty well winning $36.00 I believe that I was the big winner for the night. I also made up a new game, called Texas Roadhouse, mainly because I couldn't remember the name of Texas Hold'em. For more on the new game check out Rich's Blog. The night was fun as usual. I got home around midnight and sent Traci, Rich's Fiance, home to her man.

New Tires:
Saturday morning i woke up and decided it was time to get some new tires. The ones currently on my Explorer looked more like racing slicks than the All Terrain Tires they once were. In fact, the steel belts were now showing through, so it may be time for new tires. Well I called about 10 places to get prices. LJ Allen had the cheapest price at $309 drive out for all 4 tires, but they couldn't get them til Monday and I wanted to get it taken care of that day. The second lowest price was Nello at $365.00 drive out. But then I decided to go on the web and look, so I went to NTB.com, National Tire and Battery. On there you can get a quote for new tires. And on the site they had a cheap set of tires, so I called the store to see if they had these tires. They didn't but said they would give me similar ones for the same price, so I said ok I will be in. So off Jack and I went to NTB. When we got there the person I spoke to wasn't there so I explained I spoke to Nick and he gave me this price. But the price I gave them was alot less than what it would have been if I had got all 4 tires at the price quoted by Nick. To make a long story short instead of getting the tires for $70.99 each I got them for $64.99. Not bad! Total spent on new tires....$344.96

Jack aged months in 2 days:
This weekend I got to spend some one on one time with Jack. It was fun, except he was quite cranky. It turns out he has learned a couple of new tricks in about 2 days. He now pulls himself up on object, for example he now crawls, more of a military crawl, over to the sofa and pulls himself up so he is standing. He now loves to stand...the problem is he thinks he can also walk. Well he can if he is holding onto something. The problem is he thinks he can walk without the aide of other objects and ends up falling on his face. Saturday alone he must have fallen 10 times trying to walk from the sofa to something he sees in the middle of the room. Poor boy.... This week end he also learned how to wave and make kissing noises.....he is sooo cute. Oh on a side note, Mackenzie asked me to marry her this weekend. Apparently I make her, and this is a quote,"So happy". I explained that I was already married to her mommy.

My First Pro, well Semi-Pro, Football Game:
Saturday night Rich, Traci, Allison and myself went to see the Harrisburg Angels play the Maine Freeze. They are part of the NWFA, National Women's Football Association. Now I was expecting much, but this was far worse than I thought it was going to be. I would have to say the highlight of the game was the National Anthem. As far as playing football these women were terrible. Now please bear in mind that these are the 2 worse teams in the league, so maybe the other teams are better. We only stayed for the first half, but here was what I saw in the first half......a crap load of penalties. a total of 4 passing plays, only one of the passing plays was actually caught, problem was it was by the wrong team. One of the passing plays was actually a botched extra point and the other 2 were just bad. They managed a 25 yard kick off and a punt that went at most 20 yards. It was just bad. However, dinner was good at the Macaroni Grill.

Went Looking at Homes:
Recently the wife has decided we need more space, and I just like to go look at homes so on Sunday we went a bunch of open houses. We didn't see any we were impressed by, but it was still fun to go looking at houses.

Measured My Roof:
Our roof is as old as our house, 20 years, so it is time to get a new roof. Some of the shingles have actually blown off. So we went and got a bunch of quotes. The cheapest was about $4500.00. So I decided I would try to install a roof with the help of some friends. So yesterday I went up on the roof and measured it. If you are curious the roof is about 2000 Square Feet. So I then went to Home Depot to see how much the parts would be so I could come with my own quote. I figure it will cost me about $1800.00 to do it myself. So the first weekend of june me and some friends will be attempting to install a new roof on my house. Also maybe I should mention I have never installed a roof before, but some of my friends say they have so I am counting on them for the knowledge. I am sure this will make a blog sometime in the near future.

Well that was my weekend.

For Chuck and Josh...

This is a little Sheetz employee update for Chuck and Josh since they left I am not sure they get to go to Sheetz anymore, but we used to go quite often. So here is my little Sheetz update for them:
1) The pregnant girl, Amanda, she isn't coming back til after she gives birth to her child
2) Bobbie Jo decided not to show up for work yesterday
3) Alpha was pissed and thought it was only a matter of time before Bobbie Jo didn't show up

So that was my little Sheetz update for Chuck and Josh. Also a number of us have tried to contact Josh, but he isn't returning any calls.....Josh are you still there? No blog updates or nothin'. Chuck on the other hand still blogs and once in a while I get a little Nextel Two-Way action from him.

Another Celebrity Spotting.....

If you refer back to my "New York, New York" post you will remember the wife and I spotted a couple of celebrities at dinner one night. Well this weekend we went out to NYC for my neice Emma's First Communion. We ate at a restaurant called Paolo's on 84th St. While eating we saw Dan Aykroyd eating with his wife, Donna Dixon of Bosom Buddies fame. I played the part of paparazzi and took a picture of him.

ComCastic

anything but ComCastic is more like it. Yesterday I started my first day with a new company.....ComCast. ComCast bought the company used to work for SusCom. I started 8 years ago with BlazeNet, a sister company of SusCom. Then last year BlazeNet and SusCom merged. I wasn't looking forward to the merge, since it meant change, but the change was minimal and in the end liked working SusCom. So I had worked at basically the same company in the same building for the past 8 years, although I have had 7 or 8 cubicles. I had seen BlazeNet grow from the 20 people that were there when I started to a point when we probably had over 100 employees when we purchased a couple of other companies, then widdle back down to around 30. I LOVED working for BlazeNet/SusCom. We have a basketball hoop out side, a foosball table in the breakroom and a place to play indoor football during the winter. We worked hard, but knew how to blow of the steam. And now Com Cast comes in and so far this assimilation has not gone in my opinion, and it is just an opinion, very smooth. First not all of us received new jobs with ComCast. Letters were handed out one day at work, some received letters some did not. They handed the letters out right in front of everyone, so you knew who did and didn't receive letters, a little awkward if you ask me. Yesterday was the first day that people didn't receive letters did not come to work. It was weird and a littel depressing. BlazeNet/SusCom to me was like a family and it is weird when some of your family just disappears. I am not sure what ComCast is like, who knows I may end up loving it there too, but BlazeNet will always be special to me.

He speaks

This weekend, my son, Jackson said his first words.....wanna guess what they were...his first words were "Da Da" He says it over and over. It is so very cute. Of course my wife isn't too happy that "Da Da" was his first word. By the way that is jackson on the right in his Christening Outfit. Pretty cute if I do say so myself. Also this weekend my wife took Mackenzie to her first ballet. They saw the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet perform "Cinderella's Ball". Mackenzie absolutely loved it.
