Tribute to Schhhneider...

My last couple of days here at HDI have been a bit low key, so I have found myself with some time in between writing up instructions on how I do stuff and filling out my exit interview.

So I have come across 2 videos that remind me of my friend, ex-coworker, and soon to be co-vacation goer, B-boy Snyder. I don't really like posting other people stuff on my blog, but for Schhhneider I will. The first video is a kid who posts funny satires on youtube. And there is a line in the song that for some reason makes me think that it is something that Snyder would have actually wrote or might enjoy hearing. Plus the title of the song goes with my last post. Let me know if you picked out the line.

The line is "I've been doing drive by's all of my life, except the bullets are newspapers and the car is my bike"

The second video is just one I thought he might enjoy since it features his favorite player. Plus I like the song even if I am not the biggest Jay Z fan.

If you find another line amusing please let me know what it is. Or let me know if you agree that it is a Snyder like line.

Chili Cook Off

OK for the past 7 or years I have been wanting to go to the Chili Cook Off in York. In the past I have either been out of town or they have been out of chili by the time I got there. This year all the stars aligned for me and finally this year I got to go and since I got there when they opened they still had chili, in fact some didn't even have their chili ready yet I was so on time.

So here are some of my experiences from my first Chili Cook Off in York.

It's $5.00 to get in, but all that gets you is in? It's another $5.00 to sample 10 chili's. I didn't think that was enough so I bought 30 chili's worth of tickets to split between myself, my wife, her sister and our kids. I thought I was going to have to go back and buy more tickets, but it was PLENTY, in fact we ended up giving like 8 tickets away.

The $5.00 entrance fee and $5.00/10 chili fee doesn't get you anything to drink. You need to either buy beer tickets @ $3.00/ea. (a fair price) or buy a drink from one of the vendors. I optioned for the combo, beer and ice tea. Thanks to having the hook up (Rhett) the beer was an even better price.

None of the chili really stood out as a winner, they were all ok, nothing really interesting. The most interesting one there was a Buffalo Chicken Chili, but I couldn't find any chicken in mine. Also There was one REALLY hot one, but I don't remember the name of the place, just some signs stating their chili was hot, it was.

I think next year I will enter my spam chili, if nothing else it should prove to be a fun time. And none of the other chili really seemed all that great to me, so what the heck, I think I will give it a go!

There were some attitudes at the cook off. I went around with Rich tasting the chili. We got to one tent and their were 2 pots, so Rich asked if the chili was different. They stated a smart ass answer of "Yes, two pots, two different chilis, two different cooks, they share nothing in common" Well I then pointed out that "they share the same tent with the same sign. So they do share something in common. " Jackass!

Paddywack wasn't wack. They were pretty good.

I didn't vote for any one's chili because they were all pretty much the same.

OK, I think that's it. Overall it was a good time, but I would recommend leaving the kids home, there really isn't anything for them to do and they don't really like chili that much, except Jack who likes everything.

Sean is back, back again, Sean is back, tell a friend.......

.....well I will be back working in York starting June 4th. I have taken a job at The Bon Ton as a Server Analyst(Web). My job here at Hanover Direct was good, but the 2 hour commute (round trip) everyday was starting to wear on me and upper management doesn't seem to keen on the idea of having a data center in Hanover, Pa. So I took that as my cue to maybe get another job or at least think about it. Then someone I worked with at Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff got in touch with me and asked if I would be interested in a job at The Bon Ton. So I gave it a shot and voila! I will starting a new job. I am looking forward to working in York again. Maybe I can even have lunch with Chuck once in a while..LOL...Snyder I will be calling you about lunch as well.

On another note, Friday on my way home from Hanover I saw a guy mowing his yard with a mower and string. The string was for lowering his mower down a hill then pulling it back up with the string. It was very interesting to watch.

A Moment of Silence

Yesterday after lunch I receive a call from Allison, my wife, she is cry and very upset. She then tells me she hit a dog and didn't know what to do. She said that she was driving up the street and hit something and when she looked in the rear view mirror she wasn't sure what it was, so she turned around to see what it was. But when she arrived, it turned out it was a dog that she hit and it was definitely dead, i won't provide any more details about the condition, but it was dead.

She was very upset and didn't know what to do next. I asked her if it had a collar she said it did, but didn't want to go near the dog. I asked her where she was and she said on our street. I said you hit a neighbors dog? Yup. And the owner's boyfriend was right there. It's not that she was trying to dodge any responsibility, but she just didn't know what to do next. Do you call the police, your insurance agent, should she pick up the dog and take it to the owner? And to be honest I really didn't know what she should do next. The owners boyfriend apparently came over and got the dog and put it on the sidewalk. The owner soon came home, Allison went over to apologize to the owner and express her sympathy, but the owner didn't want to talk. So Allison gave her our phone number and name.

Now I would say Allison did everything right. She didn't drive off, she apologized, she gave the owners our contact information. So my question to you is....what would you have done? Allison wasn't speeding up the road, she didn't even see the dog until it was in her rear view mirror. From what I have gathered the dog ran out the door, ran in front of a car parked along the side of the street and then in front of Allison's car.

In my opinion the owner is just as at fault, if not more, as Allison. She was not speeding, not on the cell phone, the radio wasn't even on, it was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And now Allison is afraid to drive up our own street. And Mackenzie, who was also in car, doesn't want to drive the place where "mommy hit the dog". Am I write in saying that it was just an accident and these things happen. It was a terrible thing, but it was an accident and honestly if the dog was going to leave the property the owners should have put it on a leash. Please let me know what you think.......

Oxymoron?

You be the judge....This weekend on the way back from Connecticut we passed a cemetery called "Resurrection Cemetery". Now doesn't that seem like an oxymoron?

How does such a cemetery work? Do they just rent you the plot, because after all you won't really be using it long term. And can anyone be buried there? If so, Allison if you read this and I die in a car accident or something and i don't look that bad, please bury me here so I can come back and live longer.
